Gujarat Titans, making their debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) led by debutant captain Hardik Pandya, have appointed Rashid Khan as the vice-captain of the team. The major announcement was made a day before the team's season opener against the Lucknow Super Giants.
An IPL legend, Khan has an outstanding record in the tournament having picked 93 wickets in 76 matches. He was an integral member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2017 to 2021. After being released, he was chosen by the Titans ahead of the mega auction for a hefty sum of INR 15 crore and will be eager to assist Hardik Pandya this season.
Khan has also led his national side Afghanistan on a few occasions. His experience will come in very handy for the team. Titans and Super Giants will be making their debut at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 28.
Gujarat Titans made an official announcement on their Instagram account, along with an adorable photo of Hardik and Rashid laughing together.
"Rashid bhai becomes our vice-captain in yet another #SeasonOfFirsts," the caption of the post read.
