Mumbai and Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw was recently in the news for the wrong reasons as he reportedly performed poorly in the yo-yo test conducted at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
As per reports, Shaw could not even touch a score of 15 when 16.5 is the minimum mark set by the BCCI for Men's cricketers. This does not mean Shaw's IPL 2022 participation is at any risk, but casts a shadow over his immediate international future as Team India priotizes fitness and the yo-yo test performance plays a key role in selection.
The 22-year-old batter has joined Delhi Capitals team camp in Mumbai and is currently quarantining before he's allowed to practice with the squad. He was among the four players retained by the franchise ahead of Shikhar Dhawan, which signifies how highly he is rated by the team management and head coach Ricky Ponting.

Shaw has been widely criticized on social media since the news broke through about his yo-yo test failure, and the batter perhaps reacted to it with a cryptic story on Instagram, as he shared a quote asking people not to judge without knowing the complete story.
"These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn't stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It's just a fitness parameter and not the be all and end all. Look, he has played three Ranji matches back-to-back. Once you play three first-class games on the bounce, the fatigue can also affect your Yo-Yo score," a source told PTI.
Shaw has played 53 matches for the Delhi franchise in the IPL, scoring 1305 runs at an average of 24.62 with a strike-rate of 146. He has made 10 fifties with a career-best of 99.
