The Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise welcomed their captain Mayank Agarwal to the training camp with claps and applause. He will be making his full-time captaincy debut in the upcoming IPL 2022 edition which begins from March 26 onwards.
PBKS was on hunt for a new captain after they failed to retain KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction despite buying some big names in the auction like Shikhar Dhawan, and Jonny Bairstow, the PBKs management settled on Mayank Agarwal as their new captain.
The 31-year-old was part of the Test squad for the Sri Lanka series and joined PBKS' camp on Wednesday (March 16). The players gave a rousing welcome to their new captain and started clapping after he arrived at the practice session.
While Shikhar Dhawan was bought by PBKS for INR 8.25 crores, the franchise also spent money on names like Liam Livingstone (11.5 crores), Kagiso Rabada (9.25 crore), Shahrukh Khan (9 crores), Jonny Bairstow (6.75 crores), and Odean Smith (6 crores).
PBKS will open their IPL 2022 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 27 and their last league match will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 22.
