New Zealand and Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has questioned the introduction of a particular new ruling in the Indian Premier League from the IPL 2022 edition onwards.
As the custodians of cricket rules MCC introduced some changes to the rules of the game, the IPL management decided to enforce some of them in the upcoming IPL 2022 as well.
Among the many changes, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) adopted Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) suggestion for the new batter to replace the dismissed batter after the latter is caught -- irrespective of whether both batters had crossed each other before the catch was taken.
However, this ruling has not sat down well with New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham and he questioned the same on his Twitter account.
He tweeted: “I don’t really understand the point of this. Has this rule ever been a problem? Also rewards batsmen who don’t stay aware of the match situation. Don’t like it.”
However, the netizens were quick to share their views, especially from the bowlers’ point of view.
