The IPL 2022 auction was a huge success as more than 600 players went under the hammer in the two-day event on February 12-13 in Bengaluru and 204 of them got lucky as the ten IPL franchises splurged over INR 550 crores.
Delhi Capitals (DC) also had a decent outing in the IPL 2022 mega auction. They have been one of the most impressive sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the last few seasons, having finished as the league table-toppers in IPL 2021 before bowing out in the playoffs.
Before the IPL 2022 mega auction, the DC team had retained Rishabh Pant for Rs 16 crore, Akshar Patel for Rs 9 crore, Prithvi Shaw for Rs 7.5 crore, and Anrich Nortje for Rs 6.5 crore. They had also named Pant as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2022 tournament.

DC’s biggest buy was Shardul Thakur, which cost them INR 10.75 crores, while they bought David Warner for a steal at INR 6.25 crores. After losing out on Marcus Stoinis, DC put faith into Mitchell Marsh, while also bringing in Kuldeep Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, KS Bharat, and hard-hitting Rovman Powell.

DC has perhaps one of the most devastating opening pairs in the IPL 2022, with Prithvi Shaw joining forces with Australia’s David Warner. Warner is the highest run-getter in IPL history amongst overseas batters and the left-right combo is expected to be a death knell for opposition bowlers.

Mitchell Marsh was wonderful for Australia at no.3 in the T20 World Cup 2021 and will be expected to continue doing that for DC in IPL 2022. The DC management will also hope that he stays fit for the entire tournament, given his history with injuries.
Rishabh Pant is expected to bat in the top four or five, while the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Mandeep Singh, and even KS Bharat might slot into middle order to stabilize the team.
Akshar Patel and Shardul Thakur are expected to be the all-rounders DC will bank upon for providing firepower late in the innings and to pick crucial wickets. One from Kuldeep Yadav, Vicky Ostwal, and Lalit Yadav will accompany Akshar in the spin department.

Anrich Nortje is expected to lead the pace bowling unit with Shardul and either Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed, or Kamlesh Nagarkoti for the company. DC also has the services of Lungi Ngidi as well.
