IPL 2022: Mohammad Shami hails Rohit Sharma as a good captain; excited to join Gujarat Titans

Indian speedster Mohammad Shami heaped praise on Team India’s new limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma, saying the opener is undoubtedly a good captain and very supportive to him.

Recently, Rohit Sharma started his full-time captaincy tenure with a 3-0 win in an ODI series against the West Indies at home. Now, Team India and the West Indies will be facing each other in a three-match T20I series to be played at the Eden Garden in Kolkata from February 16.

Shami told ANI: “Rohit no doubt is a good captain. He has won many IPL seasons and is a great leader. He has been really supportive to me, as we both have been playing for a long time now.”

The pacer was picked up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.25 crores at the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, and he is really excited to join the new IPL franchise.

Shami said of IPL 2022 and Gujarat Titans: “I am very happy and looking forward to the team as soon as possible. Will try to give 100 percent to this franchise and get the best results possible. I always want to leave a mark behind for the youngsters to follow.”

He concluded, “So, I will be frank with all the young players in the squad to motivate them to perform better for the team. These youngsters will be performing well and it will be a good sign for our country.”
