Indian U19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull thanked Delhi Capitals (DC) for showing faith in him and picking him at the IPL 2022 auction.

Delhi Capitals bought 20 players for INR 47.40 crores in the IPL 2022 auction. Among those 20 players, youngster Yash Dhull was one that the franchise bid for.

Dhull was acquired by Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakhs on day 2 of the mega auction in Bengaluru. He recently led the Indian U19 team to the 2022 World Cup title victory in the Caribbean and also became the only third Indian batter to score a century in the tournament after Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand.

Speaking in an official release, Yash Dhull thanked Delhi Capitals for showing faith in him. He said that it’s a dream come true for him and is really excited to join the team and give his best.

"Hi Delhi Capitals. Thank you for showing faith in me and selecting me at the auctions. I have been a part of Delhi Capitals Bal Bhavan Academy for 8-9 years. So this is a dream come true for me. I am really excited to join the team and I am ready to give my best," Yash Dhull said.

While talking about picking Yash Dhull, Delhi Capitals' Interim CEO Vinod Bisht said that they spotted a young batter 4-5 years back and they wanted to develop the idea of doing grassroots and build stories.

He added that picking Yash Dhull in their side is the outcome of their effort in the last 5-6 years, where they supported a young batter who went on to captain the U19 Indian team and win the World Cup.

“Yash has been a talent who has been spotted 4-5 years back since he was a small kid. At that time, in the earlier avatar of ours, we always wanted to develop the whole idea of doing grassroots cricket and build stories.

“This is an outcome of that effort of 5-6 years. When a 14-year-old young talent came up to us, and we supported him at that time, and then he goes on to become the captain of India U-19 team, and wins the World Cup, and is back into our fold,” Vindo Bisht said.

Vindo Bisht further said that at Delhi Capitals they develop the talent that becomes big. He cited the example of Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, and Rishabh Pant and remarked that they want to continue the story of doing the same.

“This was one talent we could not have allowed to go. The very ethos of saying we develop grassroots talent, we develop talent who can become big and we need to support them in the formative years. That's what exactly we have done. We have done it in the past with Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and that is a story we want to continue,” he said.

Yash Dhull U19 teammates Raj Angad Bawa and Rajvardhan Hangargekar were roped in by Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings INR 2 crores and INR 1.5 crores respectively.
