Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday (February 12) roped in veteran spinner R Ashwin at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Ashwin, who entered into the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore, was bagged by the Royals for INR 5 crore.

The signing meant that Ashwin will now share the dressing room with Jos Buttler at RR. Notably, the off-spinner had run out Buttler by affecting ‘Mankad’ during the IPL 2019 while playing for Punjab.

The incident had sparked a huge debate in the cricket fraternity as dismissing a batter using the method is still considered against the spirit of the game.

After buying Ashwin, the Rajasthan-based franchise shared a hilarious video on Twitter, in which they put the faces of Ashwin and Buttler by editing.

“Hey. Look at us, look at us. Who would have thought,” Buttler can be heard saying in the edited video.

To which, Ashwin replied: “Not me.”

According to a report, the Rajasthan Royals team management had a discussion with Jos Buttler before going all out for R Ashwin in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

"We spoke to Jos prior to the auction and talked through all our prioritastion of players. Obviously, he did not even think about it. I had to bring it up and he was absolutely fine with it. On the field, they are looking forward to playing together," RR CEO Jake Lush McCrum quoted as saying by Sportstar.
