The IPL 2022 auction is upon us and the mega event will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. The mega event will see 590 players going under the hammer with the eight original and two new franchises bidding on them.
The existing eight franchises have had to release most of their players back to the auction pool while retaining a maximum of four players each. The two new franchises, on the other hand, were allowed to pick three players each from the auction pool before the event. Each of the 10 franchises was given a maximum purse balance of Rs. 90 crore.
However, the franchises will not be going into the IPL 2022 auction with that amount, having spent on retaining players ahead of the event.
As far as the auction proceedings go, the players who will be first available to be picked would be from the 'Marquee List', consisting of 10 cricketers. The 590 players have been divided via their respective base prices.
The biggest base price is INR 2 crores, followed by INR 1.5 crores and INR 1 crore. The rest of the price brackets are INR 50 lakhs and INR 20 lakhs. A total of 17 Indian and 33 overseas players are in the Rs. 2 crore bracket.
The entire event will be held in a bio-secure bubble and all officials participating in the event would be required to clear an RT-PCR test.
