IPL 2022: “We missed you those 2 years” Lucknow Super Giants' savage response to Rajasthan Royals' cheeky dig

Lucknow announced their team name on Monday.

The 15th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) is still more than two months away, but the action is already heating up with all the news on the mega auction that's set to take place on February 12 and 13.

As many as 1214 cricketers have registered themselves for the mega auction, which includes 896 Indians and 318 foreigners. The franchises will be consulted before the final list of shortlisted players will be made public in the coming days.

With this season being a ten-team affair, as Lucknow and Ahmedabad join the fray, it will be a grand season with 74 matches to be played. The fixtures are yet to be confirmed due to uncertainty about the COVID-19 situation in India.

On Monday (January 24), Lucknow announced their team name 'Lucknow Super Giants' which reminded fans of Rising Pune Supergiant, who played in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, a franchise that was also owned by Dr. Sanjiv Goenka's RPSG Group, who won the bid for the Lucknow franchise.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)'s Twitter account, famous for its humorous tweets, reacted to the announcement with a funny dig at the similarity between the names of Pune and Lucknow, as they shared a meme of actor Paresh Rawal from popular film Andaz Apna Apna.

Lucknow replied with a savage dig at Rajasthan Royals being suspended from the league for the two seasons that the Pune franchise was part of, due to the infamous spot-fixing gate that saw RR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) miss the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The banter has already created a buzz on Twitter and fans are looking forward to the two teams stepping on the field and taking the rivalry further.

KL Rahul will lead Lucknow Super Giants, with Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi also named as the draft picks by the franchise.
