Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir made his four retention picks for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of IPL 2022 mega-auction. Gambhir didn't include the CSK captain, MS Dhoni, among the players he would like the franchise to retain.
The IPL 2022 auction, which will see the inclusion of two new IPL teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, won't have RTM cards this time. The purse for each team will be 90 crores and a maximum of three Indians can be retained by the eight franchises before the deadline of November 30.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir picked Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, and Sam Curran as his four picks. Although the former India batter doesn't want CSK to retain Dhoni ahead of the auction, it's almost certain that he will be in the franchise's list of retained players.
A maximum of two overseas and two uncapped Indian players can be part of the four retentions. CSK have three overseas option for retention, which includes Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran.
Gaikwad and Jadeja are most likely to be retained by the franchise as they are now a core member of the team. The CSK opener was the Orange cap winner with 635 runs in IPL 2021.
If a franchise decides to retain four players, INR 42 crore will be deducted from their purse, if the number is three they would be 33 crore, for two it's 24 crore, and for a solo player, it's 14 crore.
