Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer S Badrinath has predicted the possible retentions for the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the mega Indian Premier League auction for the forthcoming season of the IPL 2022.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will have to release the list of the retained and released players by November 30. The eight teams can't retain more than 3 Indian players—capped or uncapped—while they can't retain more than 2 overseas players ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

However, CSK skipper MS Dhoni and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are likely to be two of the defending champions' retained players, according to Badrinath, while Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the two other players most likely to be retained by the franchise.

On Sunday (November 28), Badrinath, who played for CSK for six seasons and scored 1667 runs in 114 IPL matches, took to Twitter to reveal Dhoni, Jadeja, Ruturaj, and Plessis as his four picks for the franchise, while asking fans to share their choices for the franchise.

Notably, the first-choice retention will be paid a sum of Rs 16 crores, the second retention will get Rs 12 crores, while the 3rd and 4th choice players will get Rs 8 crores and Rs 6 crores, respectively.

While Dhoni and Jadeja presently earn Rs 15 crore and Rs 7 crore, respectively, Plessis was retained by CSK for Rs 1.6 crores via RTM card in 2018, whereas Gaikwad joined CSK for Rs 20 lakhs in 2019.

Suresh Raina is likely to be released by the CSK after his poor outing in the IPL 2021, where he managed just 160 runs in 12 matches for the side.
