England Test captain Joe Root is reportedly looking to enter the mega auction for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season and hoping to make his debut in the IPL 2022.

The root is yet to feature in the world’s biggest T20 league – IPL – despite being considered as one of the modern greats of the game.

However, things can change in the IPL 2022, as the tournament will see two new teams, meaning more slots will be up for grabs for the overseas players in the mega auction, and the Englishman is hoping to find a buyer in the IPL 15.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Root “is looking to enter the auction next year in an attempt to play in the competition for the first time and also boost his T20 World Cup hopes.”

Last year, Root had expressed his desire to play in the IPL but didn’t enter the mini-auction for the IPL 2021 due to workload management in the COVID-19 era.

Root had stated: “At some point of my career, I am desperate to be a part of an IPL season. Hopefully, a few more beyond that as well. It is something I would love to experience, and love to be a part of.”

The 30-year-old concluded, “With the amount of international cricket, and Test cricket, in particular, this year, didn't feel like it was the right time to enter the auction. I didn't feel like I could throw all my energy into it, which it deserves. And, I don't think it would set me up and set English cricket up best with what's to come.”

Noteworthy, Root last played a T20I for England in May 2019 and isn't part of England's squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He averages 35.7 in T20 cricket.
