The Delhi Capitals (DC) one of the most successful teams of this IPL 2021 had ended the league stage of the tournament by occupying the first spot on the points table.
But their tournament came to an end after they suffered a 3-wicket loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Qualifier 2 on Wednesday (13 October).
Even though it looked like a comfortable chase as KKR openers provided their team with a great start, DC bowlers pulled things back by picking a few quick wickets but unfortunately could not get over the line at Sharjah.
While talking to the host broadcasters Star Sports after the match, the DC skipper Rishabh Pant revealed that they believed themselves to get over the line once they got some wickets in quick succession.
IPL 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as KKR beat DC by three wickets to qualify for the final
“Can't change anything after the match. Always we kept on believing and stayed in the game for as long as possible. The bowlers pulled it back. They bowled really well through the middle overs. We were stuck and unable to rotate the strike. Hopefully, we can come back next year for a stronger season,” Pant said after the game ended.
The Delhi-based franchise after being invited to bat first could only manage 135/5 in their quota of 20 overs. The swashbuckling left-hand batter Pant then reflected on DC’s IPL 2021 campaign and also said assured that they will be coming back strongly in the next season.
“We played really good cricket throughout the season. We stuck together and cared for each other. Hopefully, we will improve next year and come back strongly,” the 24-year-old concluded.
With this thrilling win under their belt in Qualifier 2, KKR will be locking horns with the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of IPL 2021 on Friday (15 October) at Dubai, which will be KKR’s third appearance in an IPL final.
