Virat Kohli’s stint as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain came to an end on Monday (October 11) as his team got knocked out of the IPL 2021 with a four-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator at Sharjah.
The match also saw Kohli losing his cool when umpire Virender Sharma declared a leg before call against Rahul Tripathi not out.
During the seventh over of KKR’s innings, Yuzvendra Chahal rapped KKR Rahul Tripathi on the pads, prompting a huge appeal from the RCB camp but umpire Sharma remained unmoved.
Stunned by the decision, the RCB captain opted for a review after consulting with Chahal and wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat. The DRS showed that the ball would go on to hit the stumps and Tripathi had to walk back to the pavilion.
After the third umpire overturned the decision, the RCB unit jumped in joy including Kohli, who also walked up to umpire and argued with him over the call. Moreover, the RCB skipper threw the ball onto the pitch in frustration and had a few animated words with the umpire.

Coming to the Eliminator match, RCB posted a paltry 138/7 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first. It was a disappointing performance with the bat. Kohli was the top scorer with 33-ball 39.
In reply, Knight Riders overhauled the target with two balls to spare and they will now face Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second qualifier on Wednesday (October 13).
