Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Glenn Maxwell and Dan Christian have come down hard at the trolls for hurling abuses on social media after their loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (October 11).
RCB got knocked out of the cash-rich tournament with a four-wicket defeat at the hands of KKR in a low-scoring affair in Sharjah.
Just a few hours after the game, Maxwell posted a lengthy note on Twitter, in which he alleged that he has experienced "absolutely disgusting" abuse on social media.
"Great season by RCB, unfortunately we fell well short of where we thought we should be. Doesn't take away from an amazing season!! Some of the garbage that has been flowing on social media is absolutely disgusting! We are human beings who are giving our best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse..." said Maxwell, who finished the season as RCB’s top run-getter with 513 runs at a strike rate of 144.10 in 14 innings.
"Thank you to the REAL fans that shared love and appreciation for the players giving their all! Unfortunately there is some horrible people that make social media a horrible place to be. It is unacceptable!!! Please don't be like them!!!" he said.
In another tweet, Maxwell wrote: "If you comment abuse on one of my teammates/friends social media with negative/abusive rubbish, you will be blocked by everyone. What is the point of being a terrible person? There is no excuse!!!"
On the other hand, Dan Christian shared an Instagram story, in which he said that his partner has been subject to abuse on a post she made on the social photo site.
"Check out the comments section of my partner's Instagram post. I didn't have a great game tonight, but that's sport. However please, leave her out of it," Christian wrote.
While Maxwell scored 15 runs in the Eliminator match, all-rounder Christian contributed 9 runs with the bat and conceded 29 runs in his 1.4 overs.
Coming to the game, RCB posted a paltry 138/7 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first. It was a disappointing performance with the bat as skipper Virat Kohli was the top scorer with 33-ball 39.
In reply, Knight Riders overhauled the target with two balls to spare and they will now face Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second qualifier on Wednesday (October 13).
