Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal revealed that his captain Virat Kohli had advised him to bowl dot balls instead of looking for wickets in the middle overs and that paid off against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last encounter in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

Riding on Glenn Maxwell's knock of 57 runs off 33 balls and Devdutt Padikkal’s 40 runs, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted 164/7 in the 20 overs before Chahal’s heroics with the ball (3/29) powered RCB to a 6-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Sharjah on Sunday.

In the first phase of the IPL 2021, the leg-spinner was struggling for form, but in the UAE, he has been impressive, taking 14 wickets in 12 games so far in the ongoing tournament.

Chahal told host broadcaster Star Sports: “I backed myself and bowled according to my strength, just that I varied my length. On this wicket 160 was a good score. Virat Kohli told me not to go for wickets in the middle overs, he told me to bowl dot balls. Mayank Agarwal is a great batsman, I love to bowl against him, it's challenging.”

He signed off, “My focus was not to bowl any loose balls. We had good momentum in the first half. The way we have bounced back after the first couple of games in the UAE, it is all because of unity in our team.”

Noteworthy, with the win over PBKS, RCB booked a place in the playoffs alongside Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) and will next lock horns against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, October 6, in the ongoing IPL 14.
