IPL 2021: Glenn Maxwell wasn't happy at PBKS- Sunil Gavaskar cites his 'happy at RCB' remark

Maxwell has hit a purple patch since he joined RCB for IPL 2021.

Glenn Maxwell | BCCI/IPLAustralia’s Glenn Maxwell is having a fantastic turn of fortunes after he came to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2021. The right-hand batter who had failed to hit a single six in the entire tournament last year has now hit a purple patch and runs are flowing from his bat.

In IPL 2020, Maxwell was seen struggling to get runs while playing for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) as he scored just 108 runs in 13 matches he played. But this time around, the right-hand explosive batter looks like a completely different player, and Maxwell had said that he was happy at RCB, hence the form.

Thus, while analyzing the Aussie cricketer’s statement, the former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has pointed out that Maxwell was not happy playing for PBKS last year.

IPL 2021: Virat Kohli “feels amazing” as RCB claim playoff spot with two games to spare

He [Maxwell] said he is happy here. What does that mean, was he unhappy there? You don’t even need to read between the lines when you say he is happy with RCB. It means he was not very happy or comfortable in Punjab. So maybe the fact that Maxwell is not really the ‘Big Show’ here as far as RCB is concerned because here there is Virat Kohli, who is the biggest show and there is AB de Villiers, Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Sunil Gavaskar then cited playing with the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers might have given Maxwell the freedom to play his natural game.

Batting between the two of them is giving him that confidence, that comfort that ‘it is not entirely dependent on me to take the score to a big score. These two are capable of doing it as well.’ So that pressure is taken off his shoulders as well,” the cricketer-turned-commentator said.

The 32-year-old Maxwell in RCB’s recent game against PBKS scored a superb 57 (33) which included 4 sixes and 3 boundaries, hitting his fifth half-century in IPL 2021 and third in the UAE.
