Sanjay Manjrekar admitted that MS Dhoni’s signature six against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has made his fans romantic and nostalgic, but feels it won't be good to expect that Dhoni is getting back to his old self.

The legendary wicketkeeper-batter has scored just 66 runs at 13.2 in 8 innings so far in the ongoing IPL 2021. However, in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) last IPL 14 match against SRH, Dhoni played a match-winning inning of 14* runs, which increased his fans’ belief about his form with the bat.

Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar said: “Yes, we are being romantic and nostalgic after Dhoni's six against the SRH. But so far, Dhoni hasn't done much with the bat. And it seems like it's not good to expect the old Dhoni to be back with the bat.”

He further added, “Moreover, his poor batting form isn't hurting CSK. Other players are looking to be in excellent touch. It is correct that MSD is not in form with the bat, but his captaincy is surely in form.”

Dhoni won 119 games on 199 occasions as a captain and he is the most successful captain in the IPL history with a 60.1% winning percentage and Manjrekar feels his record can never be broken. CSK’s next match against Rajasthan Royals on October 2 in Abu Dhabi will be Dhoni's 200th match as captain.

He signed off by saying, “Winning 60% of your matches in the IPL - it's a terrific record. I don't think this record can ever be broken. The biggest thing he did for CSK was when he made those changes in the side after last year, when CSK were at the bottom of the table. Dhoni was pushed somewhat outside his comfort zone. He usually has his set of players, but this season the way he has made changes to side, and has played with the right combinations - is exceptional.”
