Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday (September 27) registered their first victory in the second phase of IPL 2021 as they defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Opting to bat first, RR posted 164/5 in 20 overs on the back of skipper Sanju Samson’s 57-ball 82, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal also played a handy knock of 23-ball 36.
For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-28) and Rashid Khan (1-31) were economical with the ball and claimed wicket apiece. Siddarth Kaul also returned with impressive bowling figures of 2 for 36 in his four overs.
In reply, Sunrisers overhauled the target with 9 balls to spare. Jason Roy led the foundation of the chase with a blazing knock of 42-ball 60 at the top.
Captain Kane Williamson also stepped up to the plate and stayed unbeaten on 51 off 41 balls to take his team over the line.
Despite the victory, SRH are languishing at the bottom of the points table. It was their second win in this year’s IPL from 10 games and they are already out of the play-offs race.
