IPL 2021: T Natarajan tests positive for COVID-19; SRH versus DC match to go ahead as scheduled

Natarajan has isolated himself from the rest of the squad and his 6 close contacts are also isolating.

T Natarajan | BCCI/IPLSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer T Natarajan on Wednesday (September 22) tested positive for COVID-19, IPL confirmed through a press release.

Notably, SRH are due to resume their IPL 2021 campaign against Delhi Capitals in Dubai tonight.

Despite the positive result, the match will go ahead as scheduled as Natarajan has isolated himself from the rest of the squad. His six close contacts are also isolating.

“Sunrisers Hyderabad player T Natarajan tested positive for COVID-19 at a scheduled RT-PCR test. The player has isolated himself from the rest of the squad. He is currently asymptomatic,” IPL said in a statement.

“The medical team has identified the below mentioned six close contacts of the player, who have also been placed in isolation: 1. Vijay Shankar – Player 2. Vijay Kumar - Team Manager 3. Shyam Sundar J – Physiotherapist 4. Anjana Vannan – Doctor 5. Tushar Khedkar - Logistics Manager 6. Periyasamy Ganesan - Net Bowler,” it added.

IPL also confirmed that the close contacts have returned COVID-19 negative and the SRH versus DC match will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

“The rest of the contingent including the close contacts underwent RT-PCR tests at 5AM local time this morning and the test reports are negative. As a result, tonight's game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will go ahead at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai,” the statement read.
