IPL 2021: COVID-19 scare in IPL after a player tested positive - Report

The tournament was already suspended in May after COVID-19 had breached the bio-bubbles.

Renowned cricket journalist Boria Majumdar on Wednesday (September 22) shared that the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) could be in trouble again due to COVID-19. The tournament was already suspended in May after COVID-19 had breached the bio-bubbles of multiple franchises.

Taking to Twitter, Majumdar posted that there could be a COVID-19 positive case in one of the franchises. He also added the whole franchise has been retested and the result will come out soon.

"Breaking- Possible COVID scare in IPL is what I hear. 1 player may have tested positive, the whole bunch retested," he tweeted.

Also, there's no clarity over the next IPL 2021 match, which is between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. "Results to come soon. That’s when we will know more about the game this evening etc. let’s wait and see," he added.

In May, Kolkata Knight Riders' Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier had tested positive for the Coronavirus, forcing the postponement of their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was played recently in UAE and Kolkata defeated Bangalore by 9 wickets.

The BCCI and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government have also allowed crowds for the second phase of the IPL 2021. After the IPL, UAE will also host the 2021 T20 World Cup along with Oman.
