Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) struggled in the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) as they won only two out of their seven matches. They were seventh on the points table before the COVID-19 outbreak forced an abrupt halt to the tournament in May.

KKR spinner Kuldeep Yadav said that the team could not build the desired momentum in the first phase. He, however, said that the break was positive for the team as they can now start the tournament afresh.

“Break is something that is good for a team, especially (for us) because we didn’t have momentum in the first half. This is a good opportunity,” Kuldeep Yadav said in a video shared by KKR’s official Instagram handle.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy said that his team was looking forward to the tournament.

“I really feel that the boys are all pumped up. Hopefully, in the coming seasons, we can have this year as a reference,” Varun Chakravarthy said.

Wicket-keeper Sheldon Jackson said that having a poor first half doesn’t mean they’ll have a poor second half too, and talked about KKR’s road to becoming champions in 2014

“The first half didn’t go our way. It doesn’t mean that this half won’t go our way (as well). All the coaching staff has been behind the players during this phase. In 2014, if we’ve written history, then I don’t think why we can’t write history again,” said Sheldon Jackson.

The second leg of IPL 2021 is set to commence on 19 October in UAE.
