Kevin Pietersen reacts to reports of England players appearing in second half of IPL 2021

ECB were not going to allow England players to play in second half of IPL 2021 initially.

Kevin Pietersen | APFormer England captain Kevin Pietersen was not pleased with the reports suggesting that national players might get to play in the upcoming second half of the IPL 2021 in UAE which begins from September 19 onwards.

Given that the England tour of Bangladesh which was to take place in September has been rescheduled, this frees up the England players to play in the IPL 14’s second half. The IPL 2021 was postponed in May due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India.

After the BCCI released the schedule of the second half of the IPL 2021 to be played in UAE, the ECB director of cricket Ashley Giles mentioned that England players might not be allowed to participate in the tournament citing international commitments.

However, with the Bangladesh tour reschedules, the ECB has reportedly changed their stance and have said that England players will be given an option to either rest ahead of the T20 World Cup and the Ashes, or play in the IPL 2021 to get valuable experience for the ICC event which will also be played in the UAE as well.

Now Kevin Pietersen took to Twitter and posted many tweets on ECB and Ashely Giles' stance of not allowing England players in the second half of the IPL 2021 in the UAE. And how they have now gone back on their word, something that he had mentioned beforehand.

Can anyone find my tweet from a few months ago when ECB said none of their players will play the IPL and will have to prioritise International cricket.  I think I said, watch this space or something…….,” he tweeted.

He further posted, “There was only one winner.
