India was the worst-hit country by the second wave of COVID-19 which led to this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) being suspended on May 4 after some players and support staff members had tested positive inside teams’ bio-bubble.
The current top-ranked Test bowler Pat Cummins who represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 14 said that suspension of the tournament was heartbreaking for him as well as for the franchise as the team had just started doing well.
“When it got canceled, it was pretty heartbreaking. I felt like we had just started doing well. I thought the second half would be going to be huge for us, Kolkata Knight Riders. We probably had proven how good we were. Personally, I felt like, my bowling didn’t click, and that was upsetting,” Cummins said in a YouTube chat with fans.
IPL 2021: "You might see the best of MS Dhoni in second half of IPL," says Deepak Chahar
The 28-year-old who is known for his bowling showed his batting skills in the match against CSK where he scored a superb 66 off just 34 deliveries while chasing a mammoth target of 221 runs as MS Dhoni and Co. won by just 18 runs.
“Match against CSK was tough. We needed 10 an over but made a match of it,” he said.
The right-arm quick then praised IPL by saying, “the best thing about IPL is that you get to see so many players abroad that you are used to seeing on the cricket field. There aren’t too many cricketers that you don’t say good day to, haven’t had a conversation with.”
“Everyone’s forthright in giving information and trying to help each other. First of all, we are cricketers and love each other. I don’t think anyone who is asked a question to help another player, not helped another player. I think that is a great thing in IPL over the last 10 years,” Cummins signed off.
