Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw had a great season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) before the tournament was called off indefinitely. Shaw scored 308 runs from 8 innings, at a staggering strike rate of 166.49.
The right-hand batsman’s comeback was simply great after having not so great IPL last year as well as getting dropped from the Indian Test team in Australia. The DC assistant coach Pravin Amre explained how Prithvi got back on the right track.
“With Prithvi, you know the talent is there. What he was lacking was hunger. It was crucial to get him on the right track. As coaches, our roles involve being a little hard on the players sometimes. For example, showing Prithvi the mirror after he was dropped from the Indian team earlier this year and asking where he stood,” Amre told News18.

“One advantage he has is talent and age. But they are not the only criteria to be successful. To succeed, you need to work hard. We were all sure he would be successful simply because he had the ability,” he added.
One of the best moments for Mumbai-based batsman in the IPL 14 was when he hit Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler Shivam Mavi for 6 back-to-back boundaries in an over, eventually scoring a match-winning 82.
“A couple of innings he played this IPL were truly amazing. It requires special talent to hit six fours in one over. It is not easy. His talent is natural. We gave him the right direction, how he should be focussing, how he should be delivering that. Simply put, it is about justifying the talent God has given him,” Amre signed off.
Delhi Capitals had a great IPL 2021 as the team was on top of the points table under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy as the franchise had 6 wins in 8 matches with 12 points to their name.
