Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell did not have a great IPL 2020 but was able to turn it around in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) as he scored 233 runs in the tournament so far with an average of 37.16 and an amazing strike rate of 144.80.

Even the former India wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel was highly impressed with Maxwell’s performance in the league and showered the right-hand explosive batman with praises.

I thought he (Maxwell) was brilliant to start with in this tournament, especially on the wickets like Chennai. He does play spin well but those were very very difficult wickets to play spin, Patel told Star Sports.

I thought his comeback was brilliant for RCB and that allowed Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to think freely. Yes, they were getting the runs, there is no doubt about it but sometimes you need your mind to think freely that if we get out there is a Maxwell who can do the job for them,” he added.

IPL 2021: Middlesex, Surrey among four English counties to show interest in hosting the remaining IPL games

Maxwell who was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping price tag of INR 14.25 Crore, did not take the pressure of that and ended up paying ‘dividends’ to the franchise.

Sending him (Maxwell) at No.4, which bisected AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli in the batting lineup was brilliant. It was great to see that the amount of money which was paid to Glenn Maxwell, he has just started to give dividends for that,” the left-hand batsman said.

Since the COVID-19 cases started rising across the country, players and members of support staff testing positive inside teams’ bio-bubbles forced the BCCI and IPL governing council to indefinitely suspend the cash-rich league.
