Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman who play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) respectively in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) might have to leave the tournament and return to Bangladesh due to new quarantine rule which came into effect from May 1.

Bangladesh health ministry has imposed a 14-day quarantine for anyone entering Bangladesh from India or South Africa said a Bangladesh Cricket Board chief, Nizamuddin Chowdhury said on Monday (May 3).

We have asked them (Shakib and Mustafizur) to let us know what is their plan for the next 15 days while we have also asked the health ministry to know what kind of quarantine protocol the two players will need to follow,Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

Initially the two Bangladeshi players were supposed to return on May 19 and join the team after completing a three-day quarantine for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to start from May 23.

If the health ministry suggests that they will have to follow 7- or 14-days quarantine, they will have to return earlier than scheduled from IPL. But before that, we have to know what rules will be in place for them,” BCB chief said.

We are bound by the Bangladesh Government rules, and will take decisions according to the guideline provided by the government,” he added.

Earlier BCB had managed to reduce the quarantine for their foreign coaching staff and cricketers but after seeing the intensity of the second wave of COVID-19, chances are slim that the there will be some relaxation in quarantine rule.
