IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday (May 3) heaved a sigh of relief as their skipper KL Rahul underwent successful surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

The PBKS captain is likely to rejoin the team's bio-bubble after completing a mandatory quarantine period. The doctors have reportedly told the franchise that Rahul will be able to start normal activities after a week's rest.

According to a report published in ESPNcricinfo, Rahul flew on a charter flight to Mumbai, where laparoscopic appendectomy was performed on him.

Punjab Kings will now have a dialogue with the IPL regarding his quarantine period and his re-entry to the team's bio-bubble.

Notably, KL Rahul had missed PBKS’ clash against Delhi Capitals on Sunday (May 2). In his absence, Mayank Agarwal led the side and Punjab suffered a 7-wicket defeat in the game.

Rahul has been in terrific touch in the ongoing IPL. With 331 runs from 7 innings, the right-hander is the second highest run-getter in the cash-rich event so far, behind Shikhar Dhawan (380 runs from 8 innings).

In his last outing against Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rahul smashed 91 not out off 57 balls to script his team’s comprehensive 34-run victory.
