The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has hit the Indian Premier League (IPL), with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players and staff reportedly isolating after multiple players fell ill.
According to a report published in ANI, KKR's Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for the deadly virus.
Moreover, KKR’s IPL fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (May 3) evening in Ahmedabad is unlikely to go ahead.
In fact, ESPNcricinfo reported that the match has been rescheduled. However, the final decision is yet to come from the BCCI or the two franchises.
There has been a debate over the last two weeks whether the IPL 2021 should continue when India is facing a severe health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last week, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (Delhi Capitals) decided to take an indefinite break from IPL 14 to be with his family.
Moreover, three Australian players namely Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals), Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa (Royal Challengers Bangalore) had pulled out of the cash-rich event.
Despite the unpleasant development, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had insisted that the tournament will go on.
“So far, it's going on as scheduled,” Ganguly had told Sportstar.
The IPL final is scheduled to be held on May 30 in Ahmedabad.
