IPL 2021: ‘He is a world-class player’, Williamson hints at including Warner in SRH’s playing XI

David Warner was dropped from the playing XI against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.

Kane Williamson and David Warner | BCCI/IPLAfter suffering a 55-run defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Kane Williamson on Sunday (May 2) said that his side will have lengthy discussions on bringing David Warner back in the playing XI going forward.

Warner, who was sacked as captain before the game, didn’t feature in the playing XI as SRH altered the overseas combination, giving opportunities to Jonny Bairstow, Williamson, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan in the four slots.

However, the move didn’t work out for Sunrisers as they conceded a mammoth 220/3 after opting to bowl first and then managed only 165/8 in 20 overs.

"It was a tough day and a very competitive total from Rajasthan. Jos was outstanding and had his day out. With the bat, you need a few things to go your way. For us, we have had a number of challenges over the last three weeks, but we keep fronting up and make adjustments. Jos and Sanju are key threats in their side, so we wanted to bowl Rashid to bowl as many deliveries to them as possible. It is character-building for us," Williamson said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"Fine margins and this game can change quickly. Exceptional batting from Rajasthan, but we need to build on a few things. A number of leaders in the group and it is important we stay right. He is a world-class player and I am sure a number of conversations will be had regarding having Warner back in the playing XI," he added.

For the Royals, Jos Buttler starred with the bat, smashing 124 off 64 deliveries with 11 fours and 8 sixes. Skipper Sanju Samson also played a valuable knock of 33-ball 48.

Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, and Vijay Shankar returned with one wicket each for SRH while Manish Pandey was the top-scorer with 20-ball 31.

With this loss, Sunrisers Hyderabad remain static at the bottom spot with two points and they will next face Mumbai Indians on Tuesday (May 4) in Delhi.
