IPL 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as Mayank Agarwal misses his century by a run against DC

Agarwal slammed 99* off 58 balls to take PBKS to 166/6 in 20 overs.

Mayank Agarwal | BCCI/IPLPunjab Kings (PBKS) are facing Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 29th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 2).

Coming into the match without the services of their regular skipper KL Rahul, Punjab got off to a terrible start as they lost Prabhsimran Singh (12) and Chris Gayle (13) cheaply within the powerplay

However, stand-in captain Mayank Agarwal held the one end firmly and shared a 52-run stand for the third wicket with debutant Dawid Malan to steady the ship.

After Malan got out for run-a-ball 26, PBKS suffered another little collapse in the middle overs but Mayank kept hitting boundaries.

The PBKS skipper brought up his half-century in 37 deliveries and took the DC attack to the cleaners in the death overs. Thanks to his brilliance, Punjab slammed 64 runs in the last five overs to finish with a competitive 166/6 on the board.

Despite smashing Avesh Khan for 23 runs in the 20th over, Agarwal missed his century by one run. He remained unbeaten on 99 off 58 balls and his knock was studded with 8 fours and 4 sixes.

For his dazzling display with the willow, Mayank Agarwal garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
