IPL 2021: “If you give him the confidence, he can do wonders”, Rishabh Pant hails Prithvi Shaw

Shaw slammed 82 off 41 balls in DC's 7-wicket win over KKR.

Prithvi Shaw | BCCI/IPLPrithvi Shaw put on a show with the bat in Delhi Capitals’ (DC) thumping 7-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday (April 29).

Chasing 155 to win, Shaw slammed 82 off 41 balls (11 fours and 3 sixes) and shared a 132-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan (46 off 47 balls) as DC overhauled the target with 21 balls to spare.

The highlight of Shaw’s knock was his assault on Shivam Mavi in the first over of Delhi’s chase. He whacked his former U-19 teammate for 6 consecutive fours and went on to notch up his half-century in just 18 deliveries.

After the game, the Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant heaped praise on Shaw, saying that the latter is a very talented player and he can do wonders if the side shows confidence in his abilities.

"Prithvi Shaw is a talented player, we all know that. But if you give him the confidence he can do wonders. Was only telling him to play the normal game. In this kind of match, we can afford to think of a run rate. The only thing we talk about with youngsters is to just enjoy cricket, do your best," Pant said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Earlier, KKR posted 154/6 in 20 overs on the back of Andre Russell’s unbeaten 45 off 27 balls and Shubman Gill’s 38-ball 43.

Lalit Yadav (2-13) and Akshar Patel (2-31) were the stand-out bowlers for DC, claiming two wickets each.

"Lalit is an all-rounder. Hasn't got a chance to bat but he'll learn. In the last match, we only lost by one run, so as a team we talk about we don't have to change anything. Definitely enjoying captaincy," Pant said.

Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next match on Sunday (May 2) in Ahmedabad.
