Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra slammed Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul for mismanaging his bowlers against Delhi Capitals(DC) in the match 11 of IPL 2021.
Delhi Capitals crushed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets in their third match of IPL 14 at Chennai.
Chasing the mammoth target of 196 runs , DC openers gave their team a fiery start scoring 59 runs for the first wicket.
After the wicket of Prithvi Shaw, veteran batsman Shikhar Dhawan took charge against the PBKS bowlers and scored all around the ground in his knock of 92 runs that helped DC comfortably chase the target with 8 balls to spare.
IPL 2021: "Victory on birthday would have been sweet" PBKS captain KL Rahul after loss to DC
Talking to Cricbuzz after the match, former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra admitted that every player has good and bad days in cricket but added that a player should know how to do the basic things right.
“See, there are a few things which every player wants to do in this format. You like to bowl well, bat well, field brilliantly. You have good or bad days, it’s a common thing in this game. But there are certain things which are in your control, at least that you can do,” Ashish Nehra told Cricbuzz.
Nehra said that skipper Kl Rahul didn’t used his bowlers well and bowled them in different spells because of which they couldn’t control the game.
“You didn’t give early overs to your most expensive overseas bowlers. Meredith came after 10 overs and picked the wicket of Steve Smith in his first over. Even Shami bowled four overs in four different spells. You preferred Arshdeep to begin with. So, where will you control the game from – frontend or the backend?” he said.
Nehra said that skipper KL Rahul needs to sit down with coach Anil Kumble to discuss and need to come out with a better strategy in the upcoming games.
“If such is the strategy, then even KL shouldn’t open from next time. Either they send Jalaj Saxena, Shami or Shahrukh – whomsoever may they want. So, Rahul, as a captain, needs to think and sit down with Anil Kumble to discuss because they need to come up with a strategy that I didn’t understand today,” he said.
Ashish Nehra while slamming PBKS for using four different bowlers up front said that these kinds of things are done by the side who lack resources.
“PBKS messed up their bowling plans. They played four different bowlers to start with. Such things are mostly done by those sides who lack resources. So, I think, that’s the biggest mistake they committed,” he concluded.
Punjab Kings will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 21st April at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and would like to get a win under their belt.
