IPL 2021: “Dew played a big role, we were 15-20 runs short”, says Rishabh Pant after DC’s loss to RR

RR chased down DC's 147/8 with two balls to spare.

Rishabh Pant was the lone warrior with the bat for DC | BCCI/IPLAfter his team’s three-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant on Thursday (April 15) said dew was a big factor towards the backend of the game but he also admitted that his side was 15-20 runs short in the first innings at the Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing 148 to win, RR were reeling at 36/4 before David Miller’s knock of 43-ball 62 rescued them out of trouble.

With 27 needed off the final two overs, all-rounder Chris Morris stepped up to the plate, slamming 36 not out off 18 balls (4 sixes) to take Rajasthan over the line with two balls to spare.

"The bowlers did a good job at the start, but we let them get over us in the end. We could have bowled a bit better. It's part and parcel of the game and dew played a big role in the end. We were 15-20 runs short. But at least there is something to gain from this match, the bowlers did a great job at the start," Pant said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"Hopefully, if something like this happens we can pull it off. In the second innings, there was much more dew, so the slower ball wasn't stopping. So we had to something in the second innings," he added.

Earlier, DC posted a modest 147/8 on the board after being invited to bat first. It was a disappointing performance from the Capitals as none of them except for skipper Pant (51 off 32 balls) managed to touch the 25-run mark.

For Rajasthan Royals, Jaydev Unadkat returned with the brilliant figures of 3/15 in his four overs while Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets by conceding 29 runs.

Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings in their next game on Sunday (April 18).
