Ahead of Delhi Capitals’ (DC) next IPL 2021 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday (April 15), Chris Woakes hailed RR captain Sanju Samson’s incredible innings against Punjab Kings and said his DC teammates watched the game and picked up on a few things to get prepared against them.
Samson played a stunning knock of 119 runs of just 63 balls and single-handedly brought Rajasthan Royals (RR) closer to the chasing target, but unfortunately failed to take his team over the line against the Punjab Kings, fell just 4 runs short for the win in an IPL 2021 game on April 12.
As reported by ANI, Woakes in a DC release ahead of DC v RR clash: “It was a good game to watch as a neutral. It was a really good chase by Rajasthan, but unfortunately, they came up a little bit short, however, Sanju Samson played an incredible inning.”
The English all-rounder further added, “We watched the game and picked up on a few things that we would like to do against them. But every IPL game is a new game, new day, probably a new surface, and whichever team adapts better on the day will probably win the game.”
Meanwhile, RR suffered a massive setback as their key all-rounder Ben Stokes ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 due to a broken finger.
Woakes said of his England teammate Stokes, “You want the world's best players playing in the tournament and Ben has done that in the IPL for a few years so it's a shame for him to miss out on the rest of the tournament. I feel for him as a friend as well. But I am sure that he'll come back stronger.”

Well, DC had a winning start in the ongoing IPL 14, thrashing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in their opening game and Woakes said his all teammates are eager to show their mettle in the upcoming matches in the lucrative tournament.
He signed off by saying, “It's great to get off to a good start. Winning the first game gives a lot of confidence to the team. Everyone's eager to get going. But it's just one performance and there are a lot of games ahead in the IPL.
We have to play against some good teams, so we won't be getting ahead of ourselves. However, everyone in the group is confident and looking forward to the next few games.”
