IPL 2021: CSK captain MS Dhoni fined INR 12 lakhs for slow over-rate against DC

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for a slow over-rate in their opening match of IPL 14 against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t had a great start to their IPL 2021 campaign as they were thumped by seven wickets against Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC). 

Invited to bat CSK posted a mammoth total of 188 runs. Replying to the CSK’s total DC openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw registered blistering 138 runs opening partnership and helped Rishabh Pant-led side to chase the target in 18.4 overs.

Even though CSK bowled only 18.4 overs, their skipper MS Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate offense. 

"Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10.

"As it was his team's first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Mr. Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh," The IPL statement said. 

MS Dhoni didn’t get going as he registered a second-ball duck after he played on Avesh Khan’s delivery.
