Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced England opener Jason Roy as the replacement for Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for the upcoming 14th season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Marsh, pulled out for personal reasons though it was reported that he had cited bio-bubble fatigue to the franchise while confirming his decision.

Marsh had injured himself in his very first over of the 2020 edition which was played in the United Arab Emirates, and played no further part in the season.

Roy has previously played for Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) and the David Warner-led team will be his third IPL franchise. Sunrisers have acquired his services at his base price of INR 2 crore.

He had been in good form for England in the just concluded white-ball leg of the tour of India, and will have his opening partner Jonny Bairstow for company in the 'Orange Army'. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the playing XI for the franchise.

Sunrisers will taken on Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match of IPL 2021 on April 11 in Chennai.
