IPL 2020: WATCH - Aakash Chopra critical of Prithvi Shaw's "my way or highway" attitude

The former India batsman pointed out how the DC opener tried to blast his way past bad form.

Prithvi Shaw | BCCI/IPLFormer India Test cricketer Aakash Chopra was critical of Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman Prithvi Shaw's approach with the bat during the recently concluded IPL 2020 in UAE.

The promising young opener started the season magnificently but then tapered off and didn't recover for the rest of the campaign. The 21-year-old made only 228 runs at an average of 17.53 from his 13 innings in the tournament.

Chopra believes Shaw was guilty of trying to force the issue and blast his way through the bad patch rather than letting it past by while focusing on his basics and dropping a gear for better consistency.

"Prithvi Shaw started well, he was playing good shots and scoring runs but after that, it just went downhill and then just could not come back which is not a good thing. He is young but is an India player and you expect more consistency from him," said Chopra in a video posted over his YouTube channel.

Chopra worries a resurgent Delhi franchise that enjoyed its best season in the league's history by reaching the final might just start looking past Shaw if he doesn't resolve his issues.

"It is possible that the strike rate might be less one day but here it looked like his attitude was ‘my way or the highway’," he said. "He will hit and even if he gets out hitting, it does not matter and that he will not have a different gear even after getting dropped from the side.”

"So that is something that was a bit of a problem because this was a very crucial year as it would determine whom the Delhi Capitals will retain and whom they will let go."

Delhi think-tank did drop Shaw for the play-off fixtures and promoted all-rounder Marcus Stoinis up at the top to face Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). And with the possibility of a mega auction coming up, it remains to be seen how much trust they show on Shaw's potential going forward.
