IPL 2020: Rohit Sharma features in his 200th IPL match; only second after MS Dhoni to do so

Rohit Sharma had made his IPL debut in 2008 for Deccan Chargers and won 2009 IPL with them.

Rohit Sharma has won the IPL 5 times, first with Deccan Chargers in 2009 | GettyMumbai Indians’ (MI) captain Rohit Sharma led his team in their quest to win their fifth IPL title in the final of the IPL 2020 against Delhi Capitals in Dubai on November 10, 2020.

When he stepped out for the toss with Shreyas Iyer, Rohit achieved a feat that only MS Dhoni had done before him. Rohit became only the second player to feature in 200 IPL matches. Rohit has been part of the Indian Premier League since 2008 and has played for two franchises only.

He was the first part of the Deccan Chargers and won the 2009 IPL with that team, before being picked by the Mumbai Indians in 2011 and became their captain in 2013, leading MI to their maiden IPL win that year. Since then Rohit has won IPL with MI in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

IPL 2020: Hardik "not comfortable" to bowl right now, also carrying "niggle", says Rohit

Captaincy-wise, he has led them in 116 matches, winning 67 and losing 47 games. He has won 60 percent of the matches leading MI in IPL. He is among a select few to have scored over 5,000 runs in IPL history. With 5,162 runs from 194 innings, Rohit is fifth on the list of all-time leading run-scorers' list, which is led by Indian skipper Virat Kohli who has 5878 under his belt.

Rohit Sharma has scored one century and 38 half-centuries at a strike rate of 130.58.

Meanwhile, he lost the toss as Shreyas Iyer of Delhi Capitals won it and decided to bat first.

During the toss, Rohit said, “To be really honest I was very confused, so don't mind losing the toss. It is going to be a good track, it doesn't change much. We have to bowl aggressively at the start and then see how it goes. It feels nice to be part of another final. It is going to be a cracker of a game. The past doesn't matter, it is a fresh day, a fresh game and the pressure of this final will be different.”

But the guys have been in these pressure situations before, they understand the pressure of finals and yes, we have just got to treat this as another game. Hopefully, we can execute what we've discussed on the field,” he added.
