IPL 2020: "Rohit Sharma and the team expect me to take the game deep," says Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav thumped the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers in Abu Dhabi.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) kept their pole position in IPL 2020 points table with a victory over 2nd placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The Virat Kohli-led RCB were put in to bat first and managed to scale 164/6 in their 20 overs.

MI openers Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan failed to find the middle of the bat. Suryakumar Yadav came in and batted as if he had a different pitch to bat on. He scored runs in all directions of the ground and kept Kohli on his toes with the field placements.

IPL 2020: "Stay strong and patient," Ravi Shastri keeps Suryakumar Yadav's hopes alive

Yadav has been a vital cog in the wheel for the defending champions for the past three years and the team management had expectations of more responsibility from him in IPL 2020. The 30-year-old revealed that skipper Rohit Sharma and the management wanted him to take the game deep and finish it off.

Yadav said in the post-match presentation, "The team management and Rohit told me before the start of the tournament that you have played enough to take the game deep. I am glad I have been able to do it."

"I have worked on my game during the lockdown. I used to love playing on the on-side before. Pleased to have finished the game," he added.

The Mumbaikar takes pride in finishing games for his side, especially after being kept out of the Indian T20I side yet again. He has scored over 400 runs in each of the previous two seasons for MI and fans are wondering what more he needs to do get a call-up.

His ability to finish off games might come in handy and finally get him the 'Blue jersey' he desperately wants.
