Former England captain and cricket commentator Michael Vaughan has come out with a big statement on India’s young batsman Prithvi Shaw over his recent inconsistent performances that led him ouster from Delhi Capitals XI in the ongoing IPL 2020 in the UAE.
The youngster has had a good start of his IPL 2020 but is currently out of form with the bat and out of the team, following his string of poor scores. However, he managed to find himself in India’s Test squad for the upcoming Australia tour later this year.
The way Shaw started off his international career, many believed that he could be a big star for Indian cricket but the recent downfall in his performance has raised questions over his game and those expectations people had from the young opener.
Shaw has played 10 games for DC in the ongoing IPL 13 and scored 209 runs at 20.90 before being replaced by Ajinkya Rahane at the Capitals line-up in the tournament.

Reacting to the same, Vaughan has admitted that the 20-year-old has “a huge amount of talent” but feels the youngster needs a break to calm his mind. However, the Englishman indicated that Shaw might not be as good as everyone has said about him if he fails to achieve his rhythm soon.
Vaughan said on Cricbuzz on Tuesday (October 27): “Sometimes a player needs a break. Ricky Ponting as a coach is full of experience. He has an idea of how to manage most types of individuals. Prithvi Shaw has a huge amount of talent, he can play, no questions about that.”
The former captain further explained, “He has been around 2-3 years with the same expectations, we want him to play with that kind of freedom and in that exciting fashion. But when I see a player that has been around for 2-3 years, and he has been that inconsistent. I know T20 is a very risky format, but the best players still are very consistent. They manage to get scores after scores after scores.
Shaw is not coming to a party regularly enough. When I hear he is not even going to the ground, he needs a little bit of a breather, that is a concern for me. Is he as good as everyone has said?”
He signed off, “Sometimes a player is put on the pedestal a little bit too soon, I am not saying that it is Prithvi Shaw at this moment. But if he does not come to the party soon, he might not be as good as everyone said he is. Shaw is not playing those wonderful innings consistently to be in this team.”
