Kings XI Punjab beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in a low scoring thriller at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai and registered their fifth win of the season while Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their seventh loss.
Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bowl first. KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh gave a steady start of 37 runs. Sandeep Sharma broke this stand by removing Mandeep Singh. Rahul and Gayle took the score to over 60 runs but both batsmen struggled to score quick runs and got out in the 20s and at 66/3 Punjab was in trouble. Glenn Maxwell and Deepak Hooda too couldn't do much and in the end, Nicholas Pooran's 32* helped Punjab to post a respectable total of 126/7 on board.
In reply, David Warner gave a great start to his team and along with Jonny Bairstow added 56 runs for the opening wicket and set the match in favor of his team. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Warner for 35 runs. In the last 14 overs, Hyderabad needed only 71 runs to win with 9 wickets in hand but Punjab bowlers kept bowling good spells, and resultant Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, and Vijay Shankar all struggled to time the ball and got out.
In the last 4 overs, they needed 27 runs to win but Chris Jordan and Arshdeep Singh bowled tight overs and also took wickets regularly and because of that Hyderabad lost the plot and threw their wickets under pressure and in the last over the whole team bowled out for 114 runs and suffered an unexpected loss. For Punjab Jordan and Arshdeep Singh took 3 wickets each.
