Delhi Capitals’ (DC) batsman Prithvi Shaw is not having the best of times in the ongoing IPL 2020. The 20-year-old has managed just 209 runs in 10 matches at an average of 20.90 and strike-rate of 141.21.
Despite hitting two half-centuries at the start of the tournament, against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, in his last five innings, he managed scores of 19, 4, 0, 0, 7, with the last score of 7 coming against Kings XI Punjab, a match that DC lost.
Therefore the young Mumbai opener has come under severe criticism not only from the fans but also from experts including former India players Sunil Gavaskar and Aakash Chopra.
Over the years, batting legend Gavaskar has been known to stress the importance of getting the basics right to the youngsters – things such as grounding the bat properly while running between wickets, or giving yourself time when a batsman is new to the crease.

Therefore the ongoing struggles of Prithvi Shaw have miffed the former India captain, revealed Aakash Chopra. Shaw was coming off back-to-back ducks against Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, but despite this, he played a wild shot to get out for seven against KXIP.
“There is a problem with Prithvi Shaw that he is not changing his style of play even after having not scored runs. Sunil Gavaskar was angry during commentary and I was also a little upset, that if you did not score runs in the previous matches, then play a little bit along the ground as your partner was anyway hitting,” Chopra said in a video posted on his YouTube Channel.
However, Chopra was all praises for DC opener Shikhar Dhawan, who became the first batsman in IPL history to score two consecutive centuries and only the fifth batsman to make more than one century in an IPL season.
“Shikhar Dhawan played very well. Because he is not batting slowly, he is going at a super-fast speed. He has struck two consecutive tons, which no other player has done to date in the IPL. He has been absolutely outstanding, 207 not out, and counting. Because a century in the last match and a century in this match, unbeaten in the last match and unbeaten here as well,” Chopra said.
