IPL 2020: Cricket fraternity reacts as Quinton de Kock slams 44-ball 78* to script MI’s 8-wicket win over KKR

MI chased down KKR's target of 149 with 19 balls to spare.

Quinton de Kock played a very fine knock against KKR (Source: IPL/BCCI)Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 32nd match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Abu Dhabi on Friday (October 16).

Opting to bat first, KKR posted 148/5 in 20 overs on the back of Pat Cummins’ unbeaten 36-ball 53 and new skipper Eoin Morgan’s 39 not out off 29 balls.

For MI, Rahul Chahar was the stand-out bowler, claiming 2 wickets by conceding only 18 runs in his four overs. Jasprit Bumrah (1-22) was also economical with the ball and picked up the prized scalp of Andre Russell.

In reply, the defending champions got off to a fantastic start as the duo of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma added 94 runs for the opening wicket.

Although Rohit was dismissed for 36-ball 35 in the 11th over and Suryakumar Yadav (10) also got out cheaply, De Kock (78* off 44 balls) held the one end firmly and shared an unbroken 38-run stand with Hardik Pandya (21* off 11 balls) to take the team over the line with 8 wickets in hand and 19 balls to spare.

Cricket experts were mighty impressed with MI’s clinical performance in all departments against the Eoin Morgan-led KKR side.
