IPL 2020: ‘It was a perfect day for us’, says Rohit Sharma after MI’s 5-wicket win over DC

MI claimed the top spot on the points table after defeating DC.

Mumbai Indians are having a great time in the ongoing IPL | IANSMumbai Indians (MI) continued their dominance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they defeated the rampaging Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets in Abu Dhabi on Sunday (October 11).

By virtue of this victory, the defending champions also claimed the top spot on the points table, with 5 wins from 7 outings.

After the game, MI skipper Rohit Sharma called it a "perfect day" for his team.

"The kind of cricket we are playing gives us a lot of confidence. It's important to have momentum with us, and it was a perfect day for us, getting those crucial two points," Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Coming to the match, DC opted to bat first and posted 162/4 in 20 overs on the back of Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 52-ball 69 and skipper Shreyas Iyer’s 33-ball 42.

Krunal Pandya was the stand-out bowler for MI, claiming 2 wickets by conceding 26 runs in his four overs. Jasprit Bumrah (0-26) was also economical with the ball.

In reply, Mumbai lost captain Rohit Sharma (5) cheaply. But Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav hit 53-run each to put the team in a commanding position.

After dismissing the duo, DC bowlers created a bit of panic in the MI camp but contributions from Ishan Kishan (28 off 15 balls), Kieron Pollard (11* off 14 balls) and Krunal Pandya (12* off 7 balls) ensured MI’s victory with two deliveries to spare.

While Rohit acknowledged that his team did everything right in the match, he is still seeking improvement from his troops.

"We did everything right, but there are still some things we can improve on. We were good with the ball and restricted them to 160-odd. Clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end," he remarked.

"We need one set batsman to finish off the game in general, and some set batsmen got out today, but I don't want to point fingers because chasing has been difficult in this tournament," Sharma added.

Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next clash on October 16.
