Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by just 2 runs in a last-over thriller at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi yesterday. It was Kolkata's fourth win of the season while Punjab lost their sixth match.
Earlier Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat first but they had a poor start and lost Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana cheaply. Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan started the rebuild job and took the score to over 60 runs in 10 overs.
In the quest of some quick runs, Morgan lost his wicket. Dinesh Karthik came to bat at five and counter attacked and his 22 balls fifty took Kolkata in a good position. Shubman Gill also brought up his fifty and thus Kolkata Knight Riders posted 162/5 on the board.
In reply, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal continued their good form and their 115 runs partnership set the match in Punjab's favor. Mayank got out for 56 runs off 39 balls. KL Rahul also brought up his fifty and in the end, Punjab needed only 21 runs off 18 balls with 9 wickets in hand but Narine dismissed Pooran and broke this stand and in second last over Prasidh Krishna gave only 6 runs and took wickets of KL Rahul for 74 and Simran Singh. So in the last over of Narine Punjab needed 14 runs to win but they could manage only 11 runs and lost the match by 2 runs from a good position.
