The Rajasthan Royals (RR) did not have a good outing in Abu Dhabi when they faced the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday, October 6. Steve Smith and his men suffered yet another defeat in their IPL 2020 campaign after their batting failed for the third consecutive time.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. MI scored 193/4 in their 20 overs with useful contributions from Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Suryakumar Yadav registered his highest IPL score of 79* off 47 balls.

IPL 2020: "Don't think we need to panic too much" - Smith after RR's third straight loss

RR never got going in the run-chase after losing early wickets and finding themselves at 42/4 in the 9th over. Jos Butler was the lone man standing with a 44-ball 70 to hell his side put up a respectable total on the board. The Royals were skittled out for 136 in just 18.1 overs.

The woes did not end there for skipper Smith as he faced a fine for breaching the over-rate clause at the end of the game. He was fined INR 12 lakhs for being found guilty for the first time in this tournament.

"Rajasthan Royals Captain Steven Smith has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on 6 October 2020. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh," an IPL statement read.

The Rajasthan Royals have more on-field problems at hand and wouldn't want to attract anything that would affect their game even more.
