IPL 2020: “He will take some time to get back in old touch,” Sourav Ganguly supports MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni has puzzled everyone by promoting others over him in batting order.

MS Dhoni has not get going with the bat in IPL 2020 | IANSThe Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been struggling in the ongoing IPL 2020, as they have lost two of the three games they have played so far. A bigger headache for them is the batting form of their captain MS Dhoni, who has looked out of sorts in all the matches he has played.

He did hit three sixes in the last over against RR, but that could only reduce the no. of runs by which CSK lost the match while chasing 216. While social media and cricket pundits are speculating on the immediate future of the former India captain, he has found support from BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

In the current situation, it will take some time for him to get back to his old touch. He played a cricket match after about one year and six months. It’s not easy however good you are. It will take some time,” Ganguly said.

What has puzzled everyone is that Dhoni has promoted the likes of Sam Curran, Kedar Jadhav, and Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of himself, even in situations where his presence was most needed. CSK coach Fleming too echoed the same logic. “He (Dhoni) is coming back from not playing a huge amount of cricket.”

I spoke to him on the day of his retirement. I could not during the IPL as we can’t reach them. They are in a bubble. I’ve not spoken to him on this. But Dhoni deserves everything for what he has achieved for India,” Ganguly stated.

"When Dhoni was in prime form and was the captain, then I was in broadcast and had said that he should bat at number four," he added.

MS Dhoni had himself pointed out the same thing while speaking after the loss to Royals.

"I haven't batted for a long time. 14-day quarantine doesn't help," he said when asked why he batted lower down the order against RR.
