Providing an update on Ravichandran Ashwin’s shoulder injury, Delhi Capitals' (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting on Monday (September 21) said they will find out more about it soon.
During Delhi’s IPL 2020 opener against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday (September 21), the off-spinner left the field in pain after hurting his left shoulder while diving to try and save the ball on the last delivery of his very first over.
Ashwin had dismissed KXIP’s key batsmen, Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran, in the first five balls of his over and looked in fine touch. However, the untimely injury saw him immediately leave the field with team physio and he didn't bowl for the rest of the innings.
"Still buzzing the morning after! Thrilled with the way we fought back after our start, @MStoinis with both bat and ball and @KagisoRabada25 with a quality super over. We'll find out more about @ashwinravi99's injury soon and hopefully he's ok to play against the Super Kings," Ponting wrote on Twitter.
Coming to the match, Capitals edged past Kings XI in a nail-biter to open their account in the IPL 2020 with a Super-Over win at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Both the teams scored 157/8 in their stipulated 20 overs but DC dominated the one-over eliminator. Kagiso Rabada conceded only 2 runs and got rid of KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran while Rishabh Pant took just a couple of balls to knock off the runs.
Delhi Capitals will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next game on September 25.
